First off! The pieces of the helmet thusfar!
1. Vintage M1 helmet. Not sure if this is american or a Euroclone number, bought it from Scottwinny
2. Vintage Ear Defender. This isnt an ITEX branded cup but made to the same shape and construction for Michelin. This is the closest I've found in my years of searching.
3. Beyerdynamic HM560 Headset Mic. I traded the other ear cup to Scott for this mic. The pic is actually of the mic I bought myself to make my found parts smart gun headset from as I didnt take a pic of my 2nd mic till I started working on it.
4. Vintage compressed fibre M1 liner. I believe this model is belgian, its in a very sorry state so I bought it for this build since its damaged and I wont feel bad cutting into it for my build. Current suspension is wwii style so I'll need to take that out and replace it with some surplus vietnam style webbing. Will explain why when the time comes to tackle that part of the build.
5. Micron radio microphone transmitter. This is a neat little piece Caramac identified lately and scottwinny bought a bunch of, one of which he sold to me.
6. 8-pin Lemo 2C Connectors. These 8-pin ones are the kind compatable with my current Micron unit, not sure which are accurate to the film or if any other micron units vary in their pin numbers.
7. WWII era tan chin strap with brass hardware. This current one is a reproduction that I'm using as a stand in until I can find a genuine vintage one.
8. Pentax 110 18mm lens. This piece needs no introduction. Just using a pic from the internet as apparently ive never taken a picture of one
9. Vintage dutch army matt (probably!). So ive got a length of dutch army matt to do my helmet padding. However Caramac and Scottwinny have been doing a lot of research lately and they have a sneaking suspicion that it might not actually be dutch mat after checking out some production made items. I will elaborate on this when the time comes in the build if neither of them have posted about it by then. Even if the screen made items didnt use the dutch army matt I may still use it since so many people consider it canon, TBD.
With all of that said:
"Behold! My stuff!" This concludes the found parts list that I'll be using, Now I hear you ask, "what will you be using for the rest of the pieces?"
I bought a set of aluminium helmet parts from Schotti before he stopped making armour which I feel super lucky about.
Everything else will be coming from Caramac's prop shop. I already have their helmet pouch. I will be purchasing a drop down IR sight, a camera body, a data plate, and possibly their new screen accurate lobster plate padding depending on wether or not I use the dutch army matt.
For paint I will be using a spraypaint Ral#7013 for my camera body and microphone, and for the helmet I'll be using Humbrol Matt Enamels numbers #30 Dark Green, #91 Black Green, #98 Chocolate Brown, #110 Natural Wood, and #147 Light Grey.
My current plan is to paint everything up as if it were an Apone helmet, though I may put my own name at the back in acrylic paint so it can be washed off and replaced with apone if desired. This is why Im specifically using the WWII tan chin strap and not a green one like we see on the frost helmet, and why I havent included any helmet bands or the like. I did toy with doing a helmet with a cover but my current helmet has a cover on it so thought my display would benifet from a non-covered helmet.
UP NEXT: cutting up an expensive microphone to conserve a cheap ear defender!
